Sports Equipment

The term sports equipment can be used to describe an item that is used in or to play sport. The term is extremely broad, but some obvious examples of sports equipment would be balls, although there are a great deal of different balls for use in a variety of sports, goal posts, nets and the clothing and protective equipment worn by players.

Sports equipment is essential to most sports, and there very few sports that can be played at a professional level without making use of some sort of sporting equipment. There are some sports which are more reliant on sports equipment than others though and some sports require the players to make use of whole host of specialised equipment. For example Ice Hockey players are required to very a great deal of specialised protective gear, skates, mouth guards in addition to other equipment required such as sticks, pucks, a goal and of course an ice rink. The goal keepers in Ice Hockey are required to wear even more protective gear.

Sports equipment is usually available from sports shops which are found in most towns. They will sell a variety of sporting clothing and equipment, however some more specialised items of equipment for certain sports will be unavailable from these types of shops and will have to be bought from a specialist retailer. Sports equipment is often available in bulk for schools and other institutions and there are often public drives to help schools in purchasing this equipment.
